Work and stuff...

I work in the Hursley Lab's near Winchester in the UK. My job breaks down into a number of parts. One of the bits of my job is inventing stuff and I touched on that in an earlier post. Another part of my job though is to look after all the information that people need to use our messaging product, WebSphere MQ. One of the new things I'm using to help people use our software are podcasts. If you fancy a listen - I've embedded a couple below...

Soon I will be invincible!

I was jotting down my previous post, when I remembered how much I enjoyed reading the novel 'Soon I will be invincible'. The connection between this awesome book and the comics that I read, is the central character, Doctor Impossible. Doctor Impossible is a genius (an evil one), and an oh so nearly world conqueror. The doctor is a complex character, fully aware of his power, focused and determined and yet feels the disappointment of a wasted life beginning to eat away at him. Grabbing a chance to escape his incarceration, he is once again let loose upon the world and naturally begins hatch his next scheme for world domination. Almost immediately, we meet an interpretation of the Justice League, who having run into Doctor Impossible quite by chance in a coffee shop, do all in their power to bring him to justice and subsequently take a beating. And so the novel kicks off... The story is told very much from the point of view of Doctor Impossible, who despite wanting to take over the world, you end up feeling a lot of empathy for. Its a great little story, full of unlikely, unusual but well told characters. Check it out!
